This is the best snow we've ever had on the first day of trails being open for riding since we've been north. It's been snowing since last night, add some wind to that and you've got some good sized drifts.
We measured the table out back, and got almost 18 inches.
I know 'its the season' .... winter and snowmobiling is both Mike and I's favorite season of the motel and the year. Of course, its our best opportunity to make money, but we love getting out in the snow and on the trails ourselves. I think it is one of the most beautiful seasons overall. And the quiet on a white night is awesome.
Its also the season I hear from people, friendly and not so friendly. ... I knew, I just knew when I posted trail reports late yesterday after our ride I would probably hear from someone who would point out that we were riding the trails BEFORE they were officially open. And sure enough I did.
Okay, Okay.... I've slapped my hands. I've given Mike and I a good scolding. We had followed the law up until then doing our riding mainly on the two tracks and backroads before December 1st. But... yesterday afternoon, the trails through the pines were so inviting. It was evident by tracks that we weren't the only ones lured onto them... and we were riding between the legally allowed time 10 - 2... but George, you're right. We should not have been on the trails until midnight when it became Dec. 1. ............
Really, though.... besides the fact of hunters.... why? Why aren't trails officially open until Dec 1st... if you ride within the time frames to respect hunters, why do they have an official trails open date?
Enough. It is Dec. 1st and you can be sure the next free time we have, we'll be back out on the trails. Until then, heres a few pictures I took when I got home from work today just out back here.
