How could this day be anything but good … when we got to spend it out in Northern Michigan’s beautiful woods and trails?
Once Mike finished talking (after breakfast) we were able to suit up and fire up our sleds. This was our first real ride of this season! That just doesn’t seen right when it’s the middle of January. We got in 75 miles.
There’s the route that we traveled today. We headed north on trail 7 as we left the motel. It was a freezing rain – which meant our hands became shield wipers every minute or so! Visibility wasn’t the best. The trail was good riding. Worse area on this stretch of 7 (from motel to Old 27 where it cuts over by Sled Shed) was the valley area that runs along Otsego Lake and the highway. Snirty and a little bumpy.
Continued on 7 to the 404. 404 was the best ride of the day. Very good and so much fun. It was now snowing and that made it better.
Then onto trail 47 to Lovells. My shield was fogging over, inside which now made visibility difficult. I finally just cracked it.
We had lunch in Lovells. When we headed back out the snow was really coming down thick and heavy. Visibility was very limited. It then became difficult to determine in some areas where the trail actually was… everything was virgin white.
The second half of the ride was the roughest. Graylings trails were rough. The snow was thin … so this new snow will help them a lot. Some corners very icy.
Mike’s shock went completely out the second half, which meant he was whining…/oh I meant he was having more trouble with the rougher ride and control.
This was my windshield when we first started with it iced up. It was definitely a day when it was best to be on a snowmobile than driving a car on the roads.
We got home about 3. Sparky was eager to get out in the snow. He just loves it! I played with him for about a half hour, then he just laid down and smiled with the snowfall all around him.
